Sistema Montessori

Los programas del área de Español, están basados en los propósitos y contenidos propuestos por La Secretaría de Educación Pública y sustentados en los lineamientos y la Filosofía que dan vida al Centro Educativo Monteverde.

A partir del ciclo escolar 2006-2007, nuestro programa académico se enriqueció con un proyecto que impulsa el pensamiento matemático con base en estrategias constructivistas:

  • Matemáticas: Una propuesta formal y creativa, de hacer Matemáticas a través del manejo de material concreto (regletas y geoplano) y en el desarrollo constante de la imaginación y el análisis y el manejo de información. Propuesta que garantiza el fortalecimiento de la precisión y el razonamiento lógico.

Los aspectos fundamentales en la formación de las niñas y los niños en la Primaria, SE REFIEREN A:

  • La comprensión lectora y el gusto por leer
  • Manejo de la información
  • La capacidad de expresión oral y escrita
  • El desarrollo del pensamiento matemático y la destreza para aplicarlo en situaciones cotidianas
  • La vinculación de la ciencia con la preservación de la salud y el cuidado del medio ambiente
  • La apreciación de la Historia y Geografía en la comprensión y aprecio de su entorno
  • La práctica de valores en su desarrollo personal y su convivencia diaria
  • El desarrollo de las habilidades intelectuales para el aprendizaje permanente y continuo
  • El aprendizaje y desarrollo de la inteligencia emocional para la solución de conflictos
  • El interés por promover un ambiente de armonía y paz

At Monteverde it is a priority to introduce children to the English language and help them acquire the necessary skills and knowledge for their everyday progress in same. To fulfill this goal we have chosen the Pearson’s Education Reading Program as the center of our teaching goals.

  1. Pre-first and First Grade programs work mainly with phonics in the reading and writing process and oral language skills. The general objective is to teach our children to read and write in English and to be able to understand English on an everyday basis and gain confidence in speaking it fluently.
  2. Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade programs are fundamental for expanding their vocabulary in English, developing their comprehension, establishing Spelling rules and developing their oral language. For this reason we reinforce the program with the Everyday Spelling book. Two Spelling Bees are organized throughout the year. Oral language activities promote more English and to reinforce this, by the end of the year we have a different play for each grade to which parents come and enjoy them. On behalf of the children we have a Journal notebook that helps the development of their written expression as well as their own initiative.
  3. In the Sixth Grade program we have introduced a Science book in order to broaden up their English language. This Science book has many different themes which allow the kids the opportunity to increase their cultural skills besides learning a more ample vocabulary aside from what they have already learned. This book also has the necessary thinking abilities for our Reading program in which the children practice all of their learning skills to achieve their oral and written expression in an easy and interesting manner as well as improving their reading comprehension in every way.

In general, the whole elementary school program is leading to the development of skills in different areas that make it easier for our children, not only to learn the language but to have multiple tools that allow them to use information as well as working and learning strategies that may improve their healthy social relationships to be creative and use their potential and talents to pursue goals and especially acquiring English as a second language.

Everyday plans and activities go around the development of:

  • Social Skills
  • Comprehension skills
  • Research skills
  • Oral language skills

English classrooms at Monteverde are spaces full of action, creativity, music, songs and constant challenges that give our children everything necessary to learn English in a fun and easy way. We work in English for two and a half hours everyday, having Vocabulary, Spelling, Oral Reading, Reading Comprehension and Grammar as our main subjects. Math, Science, Social Studies and Art are worked on Learning Centers every two weeks. All of these subjects are assessed by a teacher who continuously takes into consideration our everyday exercises, classroom participation, weekly quizzes and end-of-the-lesson quizzes. All of these pieces of work of the children are kept in a personal portfolio where the progress of the child can be followed up. He can also keep his special drawings or writings as well as his researches and art work done during our Learning Centers.

Day by day in Monteverde we are looking forward for new alternatives to teach English to our students in the most efficient, easy and joyful way.
